Streamer Ringlight Buyer Guide — Skip the Cheap Ones
Ringlights for streaming are not all equal, and the $30 generic Amazon options are genuinely worse than spending $80-150 on a real one.
The three specs that matter: CRI (color rendering index — anything below 95 noticeably dulls skin tones on camera), color temperature range (you want 2700-6500K, not the cheap 3000-5000K range), and throw distance (cheap LEDs lose intensity rapidly past 60cm; quality ones hold output through 1m+).
Three picks worth considering: Elgato Key Light Mini at $99 for desk-mounted single-source streaming, Neewer 18-inch Bicolor at $89 for traditional ring-around-camera setup, and the Aputure Amaran 60d for streamers who also produce video content. Skip anything under $60.
CRI 95+ and bicolor 2700-6500K are non-negotiable. Spend $90 minimum.
