Indie GOTY 2026 Race — The Five Real Contenders So Far
Five months into 2026, the indie GOTY conversation has narrowed to five legitimate contenders. The race is wide open in a way 2025’s Balatro-dominated cycle was not.
Top of the list, Hollow Knight Silksong (assuming the rumored Q3 launch holds), with the upcoming Pacific Drive expansion in second. Manor Lords’ Knights expansion is third — yes, expansions count for indies in 2026 — and the surprise pick is Lost Eidolons 2, which has built quiet but real critical momentum since its February release.
The fifth slot is genuinely contested. Cocoon studio’s next title, an unreleased survival-craft game from the Stardew Valley adjacent indie cohort, and a stealth-launched Slavic-folklore action RPG called Veldyr are all plausible candidates depending on Q3 release timing.
Silksong locks the top slot if it ships clean. The fifth-slot race is where the actual indie GOTY conversation will live.
