Coinbase Q2 Earnings Preview — The 3 Lines That Move COIN
Coinbase reports Q2 in two weeks. Three line items will move the stock more than the headline EPS print.
Subscription revenue is line one. Q1’s $540M figure beat expectations and pushed COIN up 12% on the print. Anything below $560M for Q2 will read as Coinbase One growth slowing — and the stock is increasingly priced as a subscription business, not a transaction-fee business.
International derivatives is line two. The new EU-regulated perpetuals product launched in March, and management explicitly committed on the Q1 call to ‘meaningful’ Q2 contribution. Translation: anything under $130M from international perps will be read as a soft launch.
Custody and prime is line three. Institutional custody has been the quiet outperformer all year — prime brokerage AUM grew 60% YoY in Q1. Watch the management commentary on the call: any acceleration in that line is the strongest single signal for the long thesis on COIN.
Subscription is the anchor, derivatives is the proof, custody is the bull case. EPS is the third-most-important number in this print.
